Occupy Stockton, in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and the Occupy Together movement worldwide, is "fighting back against the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations. The movement aims to expose how the richest 1% of people are writing the rules of an unfair global economy that is foreclosing on our future."
Occupy Stockton stands in solidarity with the greater Occupy Movement nationwide while seeking to address local grievances and concerns with the conditions challenging our community. Stockton once again has the highest foreclosure rates (also in 2007) in the nation, second highest crime rate in California (7th in USA), a 25% poverty rate, and 18% unemployment (double the national average) rate. In light of public services diminishing, employees including fire, police, and teachers being laid off, Occupy Stockton aims to collectively seek solutions to such issues locally while educating and demonstrating against the financial and political system that has irresponsibly brought us to this reality. We are Occupy Stockton. We are the 99%.
